Mesmerized, I did. I’d never seen anything like it before. The shaft between the lotus-like balls on both sides was long enough for me to wrap all my fingers around it. It fit me perfectly.
“What is it?” I said as I analyzed every inch of it, the small symbols engraved on the gold. Symbols I’d never seen before.
“It’s a weapon, of course. You need to kill the boy with this vajra. Or the snake. They’re one and the same.”
“What…what about the Angel?”
“No, that thing will be no good against him. It’s just for the boy,” he said.
My mouth was wide open, but no words could come out.
“Now, I suggest you get some rest, learn how to use the vajra, and in two weeks, I’ll be back to give you the date and time.”
Trip closed the box and turned around to leave. Just like that. I hadn’t even wrapped my head around the snake, and he was going to leave?
“Trip, wait! Date and time? What does that mean?”
“The date and time when you’ll need to do it,” he said, grinning.
He looked so at ease, I felt sick to my stomach.
“How do I know you’ll give me my brother after this? Where is he?”
He’d changed so much in such a short time. He was nothing like the man I thought I knew. I couldn’t take his word for it anymore.
“Close by,” Trip said, smiling. “And you’ll get him, I promise you. As soon as you kill Adrian Ward.”
“At least tell me who Adrian Ward is! Why do I need to kill him?”
Trip turned around again, and sighed. “You know, if it were anyone else but you…” he smiled half a smile, shaking his head, before he took a deep breath and looked at me. “You need to kill him, because I need him dead.”
“But why? Why don’t you just kill him yourself?”
He flinched, and his eyes turned dark again. “I would, if I could,” he hissed. My mouth opened, but he beat me to it. “No more questions. I’ll be back in two weeks. Learn how to use your weapon. And you better be ready when I come for you.”
It was a threat. Even my bones felt it. I could say nothing more as I watched him walk out the door. My knees gave eventually, and I fell to the floor. The vajra slipped from my hand and disappeared under the bed.
Desperation washed over me and tears fell on my lap. Memories, hopes, dreams, everything I ever knew swirled in my head, but soon everything else disappeared, and only one thought remained in my head.
I was going to kill Adrian Ward.
Dear Reader,
Thank you for sticking with Adrian, Willow, Eae and Xara to the end. I can't wait to hear what you thought of it.
While writing this book, I was so curious to know all about The Grim Reaper, so I wrote a short story to tell you who he was and how he became Eae's helper, before he got that supercool awful name. If you'd like to read the story, sign up to my mailing list here, and receive the short story for free on your email, as it isn’t published anywhere.
If you liked this book, please consider leaving a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads, and make sure to check out the Morta Fox series: Heartbeat & Reclaimed.
Happy reading,
